The Importance Of 'Me Time'

When you have a to-do list longer than your arm, deadlines approaching at work, paperwork stacked high, life admin looming over your head, piles of washing that need attending, a gym membership burning a hole in your pocket, you can very easily find yourself running on empty but still worrying about what you need to do next. It is at this point that we need to learn to stop, take a step back, and cut ourselves some slack for the sake of our sanity. How can you expect yourself to be working at your best if you never allow yourself time to refresh and have some 'me time'?! It's something that took me a while to come to terms with, that putting myself first is not something that I should feel guilty about, it is something that is essential to my mental health and well-being. 'Me Time' is not a luxury, it is necessary. Taking time out for yourself reboots your brain, helps you to unwind, allows you time to think things through and put things in to perspective and it is something that I wholeheartedly think we need to give ourselves on a regular basis. 

Even if you only have an hour a week to dedicated to 'me time', it will be worth it. Run yourself an aromatic bubble bath, pop on a face mask, lie back and relax. Snuggle up on the sofa with some popcorn and catch up on your favourite TV show or that movie you've been meaning to see for goodness knows how long. Go for that catch up glass of wine with your friend who you've been trying to see for weeks on end. Let the stresses of day to day life slip to the back of your mind and by the time you've allowed yourself that time and space to relax and refresh, you'll be feeling recharged and ready to tackle whatever life has to throw at you.
